In her mid 70s, Denise had two mini strokes in spite of apparently being fit and healthy and a non-smoker. The team at CardioScope helped her manage problems with her mitral valve and atrial fibrillation.
In 2012 I had two mini strokes. At the time I was thin, I didn’t smoke, I didn’t drink apart from the odd social drink and was very active. It was discovered that I had a problem with my mitral valve and also atrial fibrillation in my heart.
I wasn’t very satisfied with the investigations being made, so following Dr Van Lingen being recommended I saw him at the Duchy Hospital to ask for his advice.
Monitoring to help with diagnosis
I had a reveal monitor implemented which continually registers the functions. This data was checked every six months by technicians. On the basis of this information and various other examinations Dr Van Lingen recommended mitral valve surgery, which was carried out at Derriford Hospital.
Before the mitral surgery I had to have an angiogram which was done by Dr Van Lingen. Unfortunately there were some complications while I was in recovery. There was some severe bleeding but Dr Van Lingen stayed with me for the entire time and took care of me personally – he didn’t just leave it to the nurses.
Dr Van Lingen also investigated my high blood pressure and atrial fibrillation. He has now recommended alternative medication to warfarin and is helping me to manage the atrial fibrillation.
I see Dr Van Linger every six months when he reviews things and reports back to my GP.
My experience with CardioScope team
Dr Van Lingen is very straightforward and explains facts clearly so there are no nasty surprises. I have found him to be caring and considerate. His decisions have proved to be correct and he has always taken a personal interest.
I’ve known many of the nurses there for a long time. Some are very experienced and others are new, but they all have the same caring and professional attitude.
I have been a patient at the Duchy Hospital for many years. The admin team are always efficient and friendly. One of the reception team has been there as long as I have and still remembers me by name.
My experience at the Duchy Hospital
It’s no joke going into hospital, but if you’ve got to go anywhere, the Duchy Hospital is the best place. Even now when it’s a big business, everyone is charming and nice and helpful.
The environment is immaculately clean. I drive to the hospital where there is ample free parking.
I couldn’t fault the experience at the Duchy Hospital and would thoroughly recommend it to others. I think it would be hard to find anyone who doesn’t feel the same.
